Who I am and what I'm doing

I love food, music, fashion, art and culture. I also love to write and never do enough of the above things, especially in London and so in 2011 I thought I'd create a blog and attempt to do one thing a week that I'd not done before in London - whether it was a show, an exhibition, a class, a course, a dating evening - whatever. At the end of the year I completed my challenge of doing 52 new things.

In 2016 I am doing the challenge again but this time, its all about learning something new each week. So I'm going to go to a different talk, lecture or workshop each week and learn something and educate and inspire myself!

The new LondonNew52 for 2016

I have started typing.  Thats it.  Its final - I can't go back.  I sit here rather anxious and a bit daunted by what lies ahead of me.  It was exactly 5 years ago that I decided to embark on what turned out to be an amazing year-long project where I set myself the challenge of doing one new thing I'd never done before in London every week in 2011.  It was utterly incredible and it took me on a mega-journey of all the experiences London has to offer.  From driving classic cars to learning the flying trapeze, from laughter yoga to rooftop supper clubs and every other unique happening in between.
But, it was hard work.  It wasn't just a case of me casually rocking up to all these events and carelessly enjoying each and every week - I had to plan each week, make sure I could get a ticket or place or whatever, go to the event and have fun....but then I'd have to spend time writing about each week.  Me being me, I would take my time over the writing of each experience, wanting to write something relevant or anecdotal or witty every time.  I don't know if I quite pulled it off but the point is the whole process wasn't as easy as mouse, click, book.
So let me return to circa now and explain what I'm going to try to do in 2016.  This time its going to be LondonLEARNNew52 i.e. I'm going to try and learn something new each week by going to a different class, talk, lecture or workshop.  This, I think is a lot harder than the first challenge because I need to make sure that there is actually a talk about something that I really want to learn about and every week.  There is no point me going to a lecture about say, "the structural studies of glucose 6-phosphate" because I'm either going to sit there with my head lolling forward, my eyes closed and my mouth open, or I'm going to be thinking about what I'm having for dinner the next night.  I actually want to learn and enjoy and then relay it back to the handful of people who care to listen (well, one person, hello Mum!)
So, January is booked up and I'm ready to go.  I am going to try my very best to complete my year of learning 52 new things and hope to educate and invigorate my brain.
If you know of any talks or lectures coming up over the year and fancy letting me know, that would be great - I'd love to come.
Ok, intro over.  Week one is "understanding your personality and how it impacts your work, life and relationships".  How very deep and relevant for the start of a new year.  See you all for an exciting 2016.   Here is me on the last morning of 2015.  Happy New Year!!
